5 out of 5 stars The Kindle and the Kandle - A Pair!   September 1, 2010
M. Kolenc

I've had the Kandle for about 8 months now. I bought it for my Kindle 2. It has been an excellent book-light. I prefer it over the classic book-light that bends and you have to constantly adjust. This book-light is perfect for reading in the dark or when it's just not bright enough. I haven't had any problems with it. I have no complaints.

I will say one thing though - be sure to carry the correct screw driver with you (because it requires a very tiny one). I carry an eyeglass repair kit in my purse which has the right size screw driver. And I always make sure to carry a back up set of batteries (which are inexpensive) - although I've never had the Kandle die on me. I guess that's just a safety precaution.

The one thing I was wondering though - they say in the product description that the Kandle is made for Kindle 1, 2, and other e-book readers. Does it still work with the Kindle 3?

All in all, the Kindle and the Kandle truly are a pair. I'm glad I made this purchase.

I hope this helped.

5 out of 5 stars Five-star Book Light   September 1, 2010

This book light is far superior to any other I've used. The light covers the entire Kindle page, unlike the earlier book lights which only lit up part of the page and had to be moved around constantly. And I can read in bed without disturbing my husband. I love it.

3 out of 5 stars Decent, but could be much better   September 1, 2010

I picked this up a while back when I first got my Kindle 2... I can say that while it *does provide light, it does not raise up high enough to provide decent coverage across the entire screen. My best experience with it is to use the Kindle in landscape mode, but then to attach the Kandle you end up putting it over the buttons you need access to.

The *amount of light is adequate, it is just that it needs a longer neck to provide good coverage. I give it a 3 on performance because while it *does allow me to read in a totally dark room - a little better engineering would have kept me using it - now it is more like a last resort...

2 out of 5 stars Overpriced, poorly designed, substandard electronic device   August 31, 2010

The Kandle. Clever name, impractical device. I will say that I was very pleased with my Kandle for nearly a month. As a heavy reader, I usually use the device for at least an hour a night and it served its purpose well for a few weeks. The battery life is acceptable given the intensity of the light, but does start to fade heavily around the 25 hour mark. Do not try to save money on batteries. Select a reputable brand, otherwise suffer inconsistent light and short battery life. First, the good;

Pros:
Intense light source (when working)
Good fit for Kindle device
Decent color match to Kindle
Acceptable battery life

On the negative side, durability. My friends, we're used to purchasing low-grade overseas-produced electronics and should expect nothing less here, but the price point demands something more. Mine started flickering after one month and removal of all the screws highlighted shoddy connections and overly simplified battery housing. Physical contact with the device would ensure a constant light source, but not an acceptable procedure. By tightening the screws as much as possible across the device, I was able to return the device to some level of workability, but it only lasts a few days before the problem again surfaces. More trouble than it's worth, in my opinion.

Cons:
Shoddy electronics
Poor battery terminals
Unacceptable product life

1 out of 5 stars Waste of my money   August 31, 2010

Unfortunately for me this product did not work, I bought it three months ago to use with my Kindle while traveling but didn't get to use it until now, I turned it on for about 30 minutes one night while reading and it died on me. I changed the batteries with new ones thinking that was the problem but nothing happened, my wonderful KANDLE LED BOOK LIGHT is still dead. I did enjoy it for about 30 minutes and I was actually quite happy with it while it worked but I guess it's going in the garbage now because the warranty ran out... oh well I guess... I wasted my money.
