2 out of 5 stars Rug Tape - Didn't Work for Me   July 29, 2010
Rachelle C. Sheppard
I have outdoor carpet in my garage area and used this tape on the back of some scatter rugs and the rugs still shifted, did not stay in place. After reading some of the reviews I really thought this tape would work - disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars Good basic carpet tape   July 12, 2010
Steve Dworschak (Norcross, GA United States)
I needed some carpet tape to keep carpet pads in place on our wood stairs. This did the task fine with two strips per pad. Only problem was figuring how to peel off the backing! Googled it and discovered that you have to make a shallow cut (with Xacto knife) on the end of backing. This will allow you to peel off a small portion of the backing and then stripping the rest off is easy!

1 out of 5 stars One Sided   June 30, 2010

The tape I received had only one side.
I was disappointed and returned it which Amazon credited money back to my account.
Amazon is great for backing the products sold on their site.

I will try Home Depot next.

Had some rugs in the house that would slip when I stepped on the corners and wanted to apply carpet tape with double sided adhesive to the bottom of the rug to prevent the slipping. I discovered the tape I had ordered/received had adhesive only on one side and called the manufacturer's customer care center (Intertape), but was given no assistance to return or replace the item. Later, when I got Amazon's e-mail request to rate/review my transaction, I rediscovered that the description of the tape (Intertape #9970) I had ordered was, in fact, double sided adhesive, and further that it was shipped by Amazon and not a marketplace vendor. After explaining the problem to Amazon's Customer Care, I was given a return authorization with understanding that I would be refunded upon their receipt of the tape. My lesson is: deal with Amazon customer care, not the manufacturer's customer care.

Rating for the product: not applicable. Rating for the manufacturer's customer care for assistance: 1 Star. Rating for Amazon's customer care for assistance in correcting the problem: 5 Stars.

5 out of 5 stars Review and Application Advice   June 19, 2010

This tape really works for us! I wanted to wait well over a month to give a quality review.

We have an oriental runner 2.5' wide by 20' long going down a hallway which itself is already wall-to-wall carpeted. Somehow this carpet-on-carpet combo combined with foot traffic to generate a bizarre phenomenon in which the oriental runner would crawl sideways about an inch per day with freakish determination in an attempt to climb the right hand wall. If we didn't constantly drag it back into place (I probably just imagined hearing it scream in frustration) the runner would wrinkle itself into a bunch against the baseboard in about two weeks.

The tape solved all that. But I have some advice.

FIRST: Lay the tape strips *parallel* to the direction of carpet drift. We tried an experiment in which half the runner had short strips width-wise across the bottom and the other half had two long strips lengthwise. The lengthwise section of runner managed to break free and make about two inches of progress in about 3 weeks. We re-did everything using the short, width-wise strip scheme, and the thing has not budged in 2 or 3 weeks now.

SECOND: Any two-sided tape has the difficult-to-remove backing problem. This tape is not too bad, but to make things easy on yourself: Cut the tape at a sharp angle so there is a sharp point to work on, and then press HARD to get the tape adhering well. Then it is easy to lightly pick with your nail at the sharp corner to get the backing started off the tape.

Really happy we don't have to wrestle with our oriental runner any more!
